I was on the lookout for a down jacket for overlayering when winter hill walking, so when the Nuptse from The North Face, came into the Trail Testers Office for testing.

I took one look at this really sharp, well designed jacket and made my claim there and then!

I have been wearing the jacket on long term test for the last 12 months and can say hand on heart that it is just excellent!

In fact I love it to bits, so much so that I wear it to town just as much as I wear it up in the hills. It is so smart that it goes well with almost anything.

I love the way it is so soft and comfortable and makes me feel snug and warm in no time at all.

The pockets are lined with a soft brushed nylon that helps to keep your hands warm and the inner pocket is large and deep and zippered. This allows the jacket to be stuffed inside itself and it folds up really small.

When I am out hill walking and we stop for a drink, I pull the Nuptse out of my pack, fluff it up and put it on over my waterproof. That way it keeps me nice and warm whilst we are just sitting around and then when we are ready to go, I take it off and stuff it back into its own internal pocket. It takes up little room in my sack and at under 700gms I hardly notice I am carrying it.

During the heavy snow a couple of months ago, the jacket really came into its own and I was able to wear it with a roll neck base layer and a fleece mid layer for hill walking and snow shoeing. This combination worked very well, particularly on days when the thermometer was showing 15 below and up on the tops with the wind whipping up the snow it was probably nearer -20C. The 700 fill goose down kept the wind out and I stayed warm and comfortable throughout. The outer shell kept me dry during snow flurries.

I can understand why this has become such an Iconic jacket, worn by numerous TV and Sports personalities.  My jacket was made in Bangladesh, it is well finished and during the last  year of testing it has always performed brilliantly.
